The hammered dulcimer and first Mbira are traditional instruments. The hammered tubular chimes are set up year round in my garden. When the weather is nice, I often play them as humming birds zip by on their way to and from their near by feeder. The single bridge hammered Mbira was built for a harpist who was looking for an instrument that would not aggravate her carpal tunnel injury. The rest of the instruments are all made as traveling instruments. I am looking for a combination with a good sound that is rugged and easy to carry along when I travel. I am always thinking about how to improve these traveling instruments and often build a new one before leaving on a trip.
